BBC Open Glow

Glow is an open-source JavaScript library which aims to make working with JavaScript and the DOM easier. It tries to do this by abstracting common tasks, hiding cross-browser issues, and providing a set of user interface widgets.

BBC Glow

Although there are a range of excellent open source JavaScript libraries available none met the BBC’s stringent standards and guidelines, with browser support in particular being a major issue. As such, Glow is built with browser support in mind.

To reach the widest audience possible the BBC is still fully supporting IE5.5 and Safari 1.3, among others, and we continuing to support Safari 2. On top of this, they actively seek to avoid causing errors in “Level 2” browsers. No other major libraries currently meet these requirements, so hello Glow!
